Lime for Steel & Metallurgy
Fluxing and slag chemistry in steel and ferro-alloy production.
What lime does in steel & metallurgy
Lime is the primary flux in steelmaking. It combines with silica and other impurities in the melt to form a fluid slag that carries them out of the bath, and it holds slag basicity where the process needs it. Consistency matters more than headline purity here: a fluctuating feed forces the melt shop to keep re-trimming.
Where it is used
- 01Fluxing agent in basic oxygen and electric arc furnaces
- 02Slag basicity control and desulphurisation
- 03Sinter and pellet plant binder duty
- 04Refractory and secondary metallurgy applications

Grade and size fraction are agreed at quotation stage against the specific duty.
What decides the grade and the price
Five things the sales desk will ask. Having them ready turns a first call into a quotation.
- 01Quantity per consignment and how often — a one-off lot and a monthly contract are priced differently.
- 02The form that suits your intake: lumps, a ground powder or hydrated lime, and the size fraction your feed system takes.
- 03The parameters that matter for the duty — for a flux it is CaO and reactivity; for dosing it is particle size and available lime.
- 04Packing for the journey and the storage at your end: bags, jumbo bags or bulk.
- 05Delivery point and the dates material is needed on site, so transport is priced to the door.
